If you love homemade almond milk, but donโ€™t want to go through the hassle of soaking or straining it, this shortcut using almond butter is for you. It will quickly become your favorite way to make almond milk!

Typically, homemade nut milk is made by blending whole (sometimes soaked) almonds with water and then straining out the pulp using a nut milk bag. It’s not too difficult, but it’s not necessarily a process you want to go through when you only need 1 cup of almond milk.

Thatโ€™s where this 2-minute almond milk comes in.

Keep this easy hack in your back pocket!

Ingredients You’ll Need

To make almond milk faster, without the need for soaking or straining, all you need is almond butter and water. You can use any other nut butter or seed butter you like with this method, just keep in mind that the milk will taste like what you use.

So, if you use cashew butter, you’ll make cashew milk. And peanut butter would make peanut-flavored milk.

You get the idea.

Feel free to add any flavorings you like, such as maple syrup or honey for sweetness. Or, try adding a touch of vanilla extract, cinnamon, or a pinch of salt. The taste is totally up to you!

Detoxinista Tip

My favorite store-bought almond butter is the “raw” almond butter from Trader Joe’s. It has no salt added with a mild, not-roasted flavor. It tastes like homemade almond butter without the extra effort, but you can use any almond butter you find at your local grocery store.

How to Make Almond Milk with Almond Butter

To make fresh almond milk add 1 tablespoon of creamy almond butter for every 1 cup of water you use. It’s easy to scale this recipe to make exactly what you’ll need for the next few days.

Add the ingredients to a high-speed blender, then secure the lid. Blend for 30-60 seconds or until the mixture looks creamy.

There’s no need to strain this dairy-free milk, so it’s ready to use right away. Or, pour it into a mason jar with a lid and store it in the fridge to chill. It will separate overnight, so be sure to give it a good shake before using it again.

Use this quick almond milk recipe in your favorite smoothies, chia pudding, overnight oats, and more. It also makes a delicious addition to your morning coffee.

  1. Thanks. I have been struggling with plant milk and camping, especially for coffee. I remembered Dr. Greger had a recipe for making almond milk from almond butter. I just needed the ratios.

  2. Hello thank you for this recipe. I was just diagnosed with UC and this seems like best option for me since I canโ€™t eat raw nuts. This will also allow me to control the sugars since I am on high dose of prednisone. I need all the calcium I can get.

  3. I think it sounds wonderful Iโ€™m gonna try it soon. I love to make stuff myself. I was thinking about adding some pumpkin pie spice to make it interesting.

  4. i just read your almond butter recioe, but was going to make a smaller batch in case it didn’t all get eaten during the specified time. Now I will definitely make it because I can also use it to make more cost effective almond milk as well. Thank You!

  5. Have tried increasing the amount of almond butter in the milk but it begin tasting quite powdery. Do you have any suggestions to make it more creamy?

I did this because I found that the almond milk did not have much flavor on its own

  6. This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this! Hands down the best almond milk I have ever had. I thought I hated almond milk….turns out I just hated all the crap in store bought almond milk! Itโ€™s creamy and rich, and tastes amazing. I am eating the best tasting bowl of cereal since having to give up dairy. Thank so, so much!

  7. I usually love your recipes but this turned out terribly. Iโ€™ll stick to your real almond milk recipe!

  8. This looks so good! I havenโ€™t been able to find โ€œgoodโ€ almonds so I havenโ€™t tried making my own milk yet! Do you think raisins would work in substitute of dates?

    1. Yes, I think raisins would be fine! They might alter the flavor just slightly, but still good!

  9. What about I love about using almond butter to make almond milk is it doesn’t separate in a hot drink like the soaking medthod does. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
